Quality improvement and patient safety continue to remain vital for advancing the mission and vision of successful healthcare organizations.  Patients are still being unintentionally harmed and numerous efforts are underway at local, state, and national levels to address gaps.  While Mayo Clinic has received recognition for its work on patient safety and improvement, opportunities still exist to move closer to the day when patient harm will be reduced to nearly zero.

During this webinar, Dr. Timothy Morgenthaler, Mayo Clinic’s Chief Patient Safety Officer, will discuss his role as Chair of the Mayo Clinic Patient Safety committee to address the most pressing patient safety concerns and opportunities at Mayo Clinic.

Management Engineering and Consulting (ME&C) collaborates on a wide variety of patient safety-related projects and works with multidisciplinary care teams to meet their project goals of reducing harm and improving the overall patient experience. Dr. Morgenthaler will be joined by ME&C’s Sarah Dhanorker to discuss her project on reducing the incidence of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections, better known as CAUTIs. The goal of the project was to reduce the patient harm from CAUTI throughout the two hospitals at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.  She will share strategies and tactics employed by the team to help create a process and cultural awareness on the importance of reducing CAUTIs.  The project was awarded a John Eisenberg Patient Safety Award from the Joint Commission in 2015 (video).
