Post-Bariatric Surgery Improvements
The Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS) - Mankato Bariatric Surgery program was accredited as a Comprehensive Center through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) in 2015. As part of the Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program, Management Engineering and Consulting (ME&C) was engaged in an improvement initiative with a goal to reduce post-bariatric surgery Emergency Department visits from 28.4% to 21.3%. Currently, the center performs close to 100 surgeries per year. The center also received the Blue Distinction Center designation from BlueCross BlueShield Association in 2019, which enables increased patient referrals to the MCHS – Mankato program.
